Maple Walnut Cake

Maple Walnut Cake is a delight for the entire family. The toasted walnuts add an extra little crunch.

Maple Walnut Cake Recipe



1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1-1/2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1/4 teaspoon salt


In a large skillet over medium heat melt the butter.

When the butter is melted add the walnuts.

Continue to cook and stir until the walnuts are toasted. This will take about 5


When the walnuts are toasted; stir in the maple syrup and salt.

Continue to cook and stir 1 minute more.

Spread the candied walnuts on to a piece of tin foil to cool completely.



1/2 cup room temperature  unsalted butter

1-1/2 cups packed light brown sugar

3 eggs

1 teaspoon maple flavoring or maple syrup

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk


Preheat your oven to 350°.

Line the bottoms of three greased 9-in. round cake pans with parchment paper. Then grease the parchment paper.

In a large size mixing bowl; cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Then add the maple flavoring and beat until fully blended.

In a medium size mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt

Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture alternately with the buttermilk.

Continue beating well after each addition.

Once the batter is fully combined pour evenly into the prepared cake pans. Place the cake pans on the center rack of the pre-heated oven.

Bake for 11 to 13 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Remove the cake pans from the oven; and allow to them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then remove the cakes from the pans to wire racks to finish cooling

Cakes must be completely cool before frosting.


2 cups room temperature unsalted butter

5 cups confectioners' sugar

1 teaspoon maple flavoring or maple syrup

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 to 1/2 cup cream

3 tablespoons maple syrup, divided

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy.

Then add the confectioners' sugar, maple flavoring, salt and just enough cream to make a nice light fluffy frosting.


Place one cake layer on a serving plate

Spread 1 cup frosting over the top only of this layer.

Sprinkle the top of the frosted layer with 1/2 cup of the candied walnuts and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of maple syrup.

Place the next cake on top of the one on the serving plate and repeat with the frosting, walnuts, and maple syrup.

Place the remaining layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with remaining frosting.

Top your Maple Walnut Cake with the remaining walnuts and drizzle with the remaining maple syrup.
